Los Angeles is a city full of endless opportunity and endless... traffic. There's a lot of things all of us could live without in LA (hello, cost of living & did I mention traffic?) but there's also some really amazing and unique experiences waiting to be discovered. I'm there quite often for work & I realized that I haven't actually seen most of the city. So, with the help of my friends and coworkers - April & Jackie - we made a list of must-do's in the City of Angels! I'm hoping this will be the first of many LA posts!
Recently, I had just about the perfect LA morning and wanted to share - a morning full of flowers, friends, coffee & books. The morning started with a trip to the Flower District. I've become flower obsessed recently & could not wait to see the flower district. Located in downtown LA, it's not in the best area but it's definitely worth the trip, especially if you love flowers. The wholesalers have early morning hours for professional florists and then let the public in a little later. It was so much fun to pick out any and every flower that I wanted (I have a amazing day job and we were picking out tons of flowers to use for photoshoot props) - I was literally skipping through the warehouse.
Afterwards, we found a sweet little cafe right across the street called Poppy + Rose. The menu is seasonally inspired American fare with fresh, naturally sourced ingredients. I had the bacon, egg and cheese croissant & it was delicious. They are said to have the best chicken & waffles in town (which I'll try next time) and they also validate parking - an LA miracle. I loved the rustic decor and felt right at home!
Once we finished up breakfast, we headed over to The Last Bookstore. April thought that I'd love it and she was definitely right. It's one of the most beautiful bookstores I've ever seen. Every inch of the store is interesting. There are obviously tons of books but also art installations, sculpture, a record section and independent artists shops. It's the perfect place to wander around taking Instagram photos or just relaxing with a good book (they won't kick you out if want to sit and read). There are not many places left in LA (especially downtown) where you can go to truly relax and read a good book - The Last Bookstore is a little bit of calm in the middle of the chaos that is downtown LA.
The best part of a morning like this is all three of these places are within a few miles of each other so you're not likely to run into too much traffic. You have to wake up pretty early to get to the flower market, so you will still have the whole day left to explore the rest of Los Angeles!

I'd love to hear any recommendations you have for restaurants or things to do in LA over on Instagram!
